The Source of Murder & Adultery
The Source of Murder & Adultery
Matthew 5:21
Roughly 30% of Americans have trouble controlling their temper, and 64% of Americans say society is becoming increasingly angry. Just under 10% of American adults have such severe anger issues that they could become violent. (Crown Counseling)
Matthew 5:21-30 New Living Translation 1
- Jesus Expanded Law About Anger 5:21-26
- Anger is usually the first step on the way To Murder.
- “Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone.” (Rom. 12:18 NLT, bold is my emphasis)
2. Jesus Expanded Law About Sex 5:27-30
- “Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-10, ESV)
- The challenge with our attitude about sex is to maintain the balance found in scripture. Some attempt to make Sex Bad, while others try to make Immorality Good.
- “You have heard that it was said, ‘Do not commit adultery.’ But now I tell you: anyone who looks at a woman & wants to possess her is guilty of committing adultery with her in his heart.” (Matthew 5:27-28, TEV, bold is my emphasis)
- “I made a covenant with my eyes not to look with lust at a young woman.” (Job 31:1, NLT, bold is my emphasis)
- Jesus wasn’t saying we should gouge out an eye or cut off a hand to keep from sinning. A blind person can lust & a person with no hands can still be violent. He’s saying that we are to take His teaching on lust & anger very seriously.
