Big Idea: Because Jesus fulfilled the law and the prophets, we can move beyond external obedience to experience truly transformed lives.
Because Jesus fulfilled the Law…
1. We live from acceptance, not for acceptance
The Pharisees worked for approval.
Followers of Jesus work from approval already received through Jesus
2. We experience heart transformation
Religion modifies behavior
Jesus transforms the heart
3. We pursue obedience through relationship
Instead of attempting to earn God’s favor, obedience becomes an expression of genuine love.
4. We reflect God’s character
The goal of Christian living is not just avoiding sin.
The goal of Christian living is to become more like Jesus!
The righteousness that God requires is the righteousness Jesus provides and produces.
Ways to respond to this truth:
Rest in Jesus’ finished work
Pursue heart-level obedience
Let Scripture shape every area of life
Reflect Kingdom righteousness (humility, mercy, integrity, love)
