Holy Glue: Sticking Together When It’s Messy
Holy Glue: Sticking Together When It’s Messy
Bible Verses: 1 Corinthians 1:4-17
I. The Church is Blessed by Christ 4-9
“If we don’t give thanks daily for the Christian fellowship in which we have been placed, even where there is… much weakness, small faith, & difficulty; if… we only keep complaining to God that everything’s so paltry & petty, so far from what we expected, then we hinder God from letting our fellowship grow according to the measure & riches which are there for us all in Jesus Christ.” (Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Life Together)
We belong to God & must not forget that Christ is at work in the church, even if all we can currently see is the church’s failures.
II. The Church is to Unite In Christ 10-12
- When the church doesn’t get along, we’re often on the field, but out of the game.
- God wants the church to cooperate rather than fight
- We neither must be perfect for God to save us nor for God to use us.
- It is good to love our leaders, but it is wrong to think God can use only leaders we love.
III. The Church is to Focus on Christ 13-17
- Many churches focus too much on their leaders and not enough on the Lord.
- The power of God’s message is found in Jesus, not in the one who shares the Gospel.
