Scripture, Learning from Jesus

The Big Idea

At the center of being like Jesus is the Bible. We cannot proceed in growing in likeness of Christ without a high respect for the Bible.

Into the Text

1. Jesus maintained a high view of Scripture and so should we (Matthew 5:17-20, c.f. John 10:35, Mark 12:30, 24, Luke 24:32). 
2. Jesus expects us to have a high view of Scripture (Matthew 5:19)
   1. This is what greatness looks like in the Kingdom
3. Jesus’ view of the Scriptures was passed on to the church (2 Timothy 2:14-25).
   1. Paul instructed the church to do three things
      1. Avoid all talk that is not helpful.
      2. Embrace [handle] the word of truth correctly (2:14-15)
      3. Respond by personally continuing in the Scriptures (3:10-17)

Dear God,

Through Your word-

• Teach me when I am uninformed about your ways

• Rebuke me when I am obstinate in sin

• Correct me when I am in error in my thinking

• Train me as I pursue right living
