Knowing Each Other

Share with your group the impact your relationship with your mom has had on you.  What changes have occurred throughout the years either in you, mom or both?   Describe how the relationship changed.

Learning From Scripture

Read II Kings 4:8-10.  How do you think the woman knew  Elisha was a man of God?  How do people know you are a man/woman of God?

Read II Kings 4:11-17.  It was mentioned in the message that the Shunammite woman didn't want any special favors for her acts of hospitality.  How might you have responded to Elisha's offer?  What would have been the rationale for your decision to accept/refuse the offer?

Read II Kings 4:18-23.  Has God ever given you something which you feel He has taken back from  you?  Describe what it was and how you reacted.
Do you think the woman's husband knew that the son had died?  If you don't think he knew, why do you think she did not tell him?

Read II Kings 4:25-26.  Do you recall anything significant happening at Mt. Carmel? (Read I Kings 18: 20ff if needed).  Do you think there is any importance to the woman finding Elisha at Mt. Carmel. The woman had told her husband, "Everything is all right."  And now when she was asked by Gehazi, Elisha's attendant, if she, her husband and her son are all right, her response is once again, "everything's all right.  What are some of the thoughts which initially go through your mind in hearing those words?

Living Out Truth

The following quote was used in the message and had been found on a wall where Jews had hidden from the Nazi's in Cologne, Germany:  "I believe in the sun even when it's not shining.  I believe in love even when not feeling it.  I believe in God even when He is silent."  Could you say those things are true of you?

Had you ever heard the story behind the hymn, "It is Well?"  How might that change your impression of that song?
